As a kind grandfather who knows how to make cool stuff with balloons, John is extremely patient with children. Aware of a child's brief attention span, he works to keep the line moving, while doing his best to give everyone a personal experience.
John has found that asking a child, "Can I make you a balloon", opens the dialogue and helps the child to relax. He makes sure the child doesn't feel pressured by him. He knows that this can be an important moment in their life and he wants it to be a positive experience. Younger, more timid kids respond well to this method and often become John's best repeat customer at a birthday party or event.
Never wanting to disappoint, John adjusts his work according to the event and won't make anything for one child that he doesn't have time to make for everyone, since they frequently want what their friends have.
When time allows, John isn't a "one-balloon-per-person" kind of guy. Kids are told that they can have as many balloon animals, hats, flowers or whatever they'd, as long as they take turns and use nice manners. By making quicker designs it's easy to make a replacement when the inevitable pops happen.
It can be dangerous for young children when they attempt to blow up balloons with their mouths. In order to not set a bad example, only electric and manual pumps are used to inflate balloons. These methods are also more sanitary.
When painting faces Sharon asks, "What Would You Like to Be?", as she gently talks kids through the process of becoming the animal or fantasy character of their choice. She asks them to help create their design by choosing their favorite colors of paint. This leads to the magical moment when she holds up the mirror to reveal what they have become.
Her full faces are the most popular, but Sharon also does designs on cheeks, hands and arms. It is amazing how quickly Sharon can paint and still impress. She has perfected using the minimum amount of paint needed, so it's easier to remove. Her paints are all made for use on the face and wash off with soap and water.
